Empowerment through Specialist Medical Expertise

ESMÉ Women’s Health was created to provide thoughtful, expert-led care for women at all stages of life. Founded by Dr Sadie Burdett, ESMÉ offers specialist menopause management alongside comprehensive gynaecological services, including assessment of symptoms that may raise concern for gynaecological cancer and ongoing follow-up after treatment. Our approach combines evidence-based medicine with time, compassion and clarity — ensuring every woman feels heard, understood and empowered to make informed decisions about her health. ESMÉ exists to deliver specialist medical expertise in a calm, private and respectful environment, where women can access the level of care they deserve.

I am a Consultant Academic Gynaecologist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, working within a tertiary specialist service that combines clinical practice with research. With over 18 years of experience in women’s health, my work spans the full range of gynaecological care, including menopause management, general gynaecology and complex conditions. Through ESME Women’s Health, I have created a specialist practice focused on providing thoughtful, personalised care for women at every stage of midlife and beyond.

My aim is to provide careful, evidence-based care in a calm and supportive environment, where women feel listened to, well informed and able to make confident decisions about their health.

I studied medicine at Cardiff University, graduating with distinction in 2006. I went on to complete specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was awarded a Welsh Academic Clinical Training Fellowship, reflecting an early interest in combining clinical practice with research. I later completed a PhD in 2015 investigating biomarkers that help predict treatment response in precancerous vulval disease and later, achieved Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG). Alongside clinical work, I continue to contribute to research, education and service development within women’s health.

Gynaecological surgery forms a central part of my clinical practice, and I have extensive experience in the surgical management of a wide range of gynaecological conditions. I undertook subspecialist training in gynaecological oncology surgery through the RCOG-accredited subspecialty training programme, and perform minimally invasive (keyhole) and robotic surgery where appropriate, as well as open surgery for more complex conditions.

Alongside surgical practice, I care for women with the full spectrum of general and complex gynaecological concerns, including abnormal bleeding patterns, ovarian cysts, fibroids, vulval conditions, recurrent infections and other persistent or worrying symptoms. My NHS work focuses on gynaecological cancer, which brings additional experience when assessing complex presentations and supporting women following treatment.

My interest in menopause care has grown through supporting women who experience menopause following cancer treatment, an area that often requires particularly thoughtful and individualised management. This experience has highlighted how significantly menopause symptoms can affect wellbeing, confidence and overall quality of life. I have undergone certified training on the Management of Menopause with the British Menopause Society.

ESME Women’s Health was created to offer a setting where women can receive specialist care in a calm, welcoming environment, with time for careful listening, thoughtful assessment and personalised treatment.

My approach combines up-to-date medical evidence with a holistic, whole-person perspective. This includes careful assessment, personalised hormone and non-hormonal treatment plans where appropriate, and practical support around lifestyle, mental wellbeing, sexual health and long-term health. My aim is not simply to treat symptoms, but to help women feel like themselves again — informed, empowered and confident in their choices.

Outside of medicine, I am a mother of two and understand the realities of balancing busy lives while trying to maintain health and wellbeing. This perspective shapes the calm, compassionate and non-judgemental approach I bring to patient care.

Through ESMÉ Women’s Health, my aim is to offer specialist care that feels expert, calm and reassuring — supporting women to feel informed, confident and comfortable in their health at every stage of midlife and beyond.
